UNC Receives Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support ESL Education

Recently, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded UNC a $10,000 grant to support job readiness & advancement in an ESL context education.  This local grant award is part of over $7.1 million in grants awarded to more than 900 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 43 states that Dollar General serves.

UNC will use the grant to support an initiative at its SCOLA (Scranton Council of Literacy Advance) Learning Center, which offers free adult literacy, English as a Second Language (ESL), and citizenship classes to the community.  With Dollar General Literacy Foundation funding, interested students will also receive assistance and instruction related to employment “soft skills,” job acquisition, and career development to help support success in the work place.
