Community Organizing

UNC’s Community Organizing program allows us to provide the residents of Skyview Park with the knowledge and tools to improve the quality of life for themselves and future residents of that development. By introducing a “Listening Project Model,” UNC will identify and develop new community-based participation and leadership; clarify issues and community needs; and build capacity for a self-sufficient resident council. UNC firmly believes any lasting changes at Skyview Park must come from the residents themselves.

In addition, the Residential Opportunties and Self Suffiency Program is a grant coordinated through the Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist residents of Public Housing Authority residents become self-suffient. UNC received funding for the grantin  September 2011.  In collaboration with Scranton Housing Authority UNC works with six housing developments in the Scranton area (Hilltop Manor, Valley View Terrace, Riverside, Bangor Heights, Jackson Terrace and Washington Plaza) to provide service coordination to families residing in the previous developments.

Partnerships will be made with area businesses, schools and agencies to provide such programming as GED classes, ESL classes, employment training, life skills training as well a a myriad of other opportunities.
