Crisis Intervention Programs

Crisis Intervention Programs

UNC offers various Crisis Intervention Programs for people who need a little extra help.

All of these programs are successful because of the many community donations of food, clothing, hard work, dedication and most of all their donated time and energy.

Emergency Services

Individuals and families who have emergency needs can receive financial assistance, referral, advocacy and other supportive services. The goal of this program is two-fold:

  • First there is the goal of alleviating the immediate need especially in times when the individual or family is in crisis.
  • The second goal is provide the resources to help the family to become as self-sufficient as possible.

Included in the Emergency Services is the Food Assistance Program. This program distributes food to those in need. Food comes from community donations (especially the Feed-A-Friend Program, Postal Workers Food Drive and the Boy Scouts Food Drive), the State Food Program which provides a nutritionally balanced food order to needy families with children, and the Emergency Food Assistance Program.

As part of the food assistance program, UNC gives out bread and other baked goods from local supermarkets to those in need. Bread is distributed at several locations throughout Scranton (Progressive Center, Bellevue Center, Valley View, Hilltop, Bangor Heights, Jackson Terrace, Riverside, and Carbondale).
