UNC, through a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Health, offers free prevention counseling and antibody testing for HIV/AIDS. Testing is available at 410 Olive St. in Scranton, Monday thru Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. All tests are confidential and can be done anonymously as well.

HIV/AIDS Minority Education, Prevention and Outreach Program

This program is designed to help reduce the spread of HIV infection throughout Northeast Pennsylvania. Our outreach coordinator works with area agencies to educate and introduce prevention methods to Pennsylvania’s minority populations, especially African-American youth and the Hispanic community. Efforts will be made to increase the awareness of transmission, ways to reduce risk, the benefits of early detection, and when and where to get tested.

Through this program, you will learn:

  • How HIV is spread
  • Practices that increase the risk of HIV infection
  • How to reduce the risk of HIV transmission (including proper usage of preventative methods)
  • How to separate HIV facts from myths
  • Where and when to get tested

UNC's HIV/AIDS Intervention & Prevention Coordinator also holds presentations throughout the community, hold house parties and workshops to make learning fun, completes outreach, and carries out consultations. 18 youth participants recently completed their training to become HIV/AIDS peer educators. Below are a few pictures of the last training event.
