UNC’s Domestic Violence Center:
- Holds men accountable for the crime of domestic violence.
- Teaches about family violence and the dynamics of an abusive relationship.
- Identifies the impact of drug and alcohol abuse on the battering relationship and the family.
- Provides for the ethical and moral development of participants.
- Teaches assertiveness, rather than aggressiveness.
- Provides participants with education on the impact of domestic violence on children and the family structure.
- Refers participants to appropriate social services agencies for assessment and treatment.
Mandated referrals are received from both the criminal and the civil court systems of Lackawanna County, as well as county and state probation/parole. Referrals from social service agencies are accepted on a case-by-case basis when space is available. Self-referral is also accepted.
UNC’s Domestic Violence Education and Intervention Program maintains victim safety as its highest priority.
