Foreclosure Prevention Program
As foreclosure in Lackawanna County continues to grow as a serious problem, UNC has Housing Counselors specially trained in loss mitigation. UNC staff assist homeowners in trying to find ways to save their homes from foreclosure.
UNC’s Foreclosure Prevention Program provides community education programs to assist homebuyers avoid predatory and subprime loans. In addition, the program provides default/delinquency counseling on a one-on-one basis to homeowners at or near foreclosure. This counseling component is an intense approach to "preserving the American Dream."
The process is two-fold and involves both budgeting and option counseling. This counseling allows families to retain their residence through temporary hardships and continue to build the asset of homeownership, which is critical to the future financial health of the American family.
