Teen Programs
The goal of UNC’s Evening Teen Programs, or Open Rec Lounges, is to provide our teens with programming that enhances social and emotional skills in a safe and structured environment. It is a drop-in center where teens are offered various positive alternatives to socializing in the streets. The program includes: youth leadership, basketball and soccer, arts and crafts, Hip Hop and Salsa dancing workshops, cooking, recreation, academic assistance, computer training, as well as active involvement with local law enforcement and other self-help agencies.
This program continually solicits the help of community members in the way of the old adage that states: “It takes a village to raise a child.” Thus, UNC serves as a link between youth, peers, parents and any significant others in a young person’s life.

UNC’s Teen Programs provide a safe and structured environment which is conducive to fostering academic support and experiential learning. Youth, ages 12 through 18, can receive homework assistance and structured activities, aimed at improving socialization skills. The lounges operate during the evening hours of 6PM-9PM, Monday through Friday at both centers, and Saturday 11AM-3PM at the Bellevue Center.
