Welcoming Scranton Draws Newcomers and Long-Time Residents Together

Hundreds of long-term local residents and newcomers to our country came together for the 3rd Annual Welcoming Scranton in Connors Park on Sept. 7. Attendees from around the globe enjoyed a beautiful day together with local organizations providing food, kids activities, information about community resources, and more. A Welcoming Guide for newcomers, funded by the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties, was distributed to interested newcomers.

This event is part of Welcoming America, a movement to foster more inclusive communities and build cross cultural understanding. Being a welcoming community makes us stronger socially, culturally, and economically. Welcoming Scranton was made possible by Peoples Security Bank, PPL Electric Utilities, PNC, Wells Fargo Foundation, and AmeriHealth Caritas.
