UNC services include child care centers with transportation, pre-school programs, youth programs, older adult programs, community health education, free screenings, community services, community education (free adult literacy, English as a Second Language, and citizenship classes), community revitalization, and community development (affordable housing).

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Housing Counselor will provide administrative and operational support for programs, Director, and Assistant Directors. The ideal candidate is a team player, flexible, and detail-oriented with demonstrated experience balancing competing priorities and assisting those with housing needs such as evictions, homelessness and budgeting skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake processes, assessing the needs of individuals and families who walk in for our services.
  • Maintain accurate client files, financial documentation, and record keeping, including entering comprehensive client information into the Client Track database.
  • Assist in reporting and documentation of program development and achievements to meet obligations of funders.
  • Coordinate efforts with other UNC programs, including referrals.
  • Maintain electronic filing systems including Client Management System
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information as per HIPPA standards
  • Provide telephonic and in-person outreach for follow-up on Housing calls and requests
  • Provide third-party billing; entering invoice and balance amounts with needed demographic information for payment
  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary by Assistant Directors, Department Director or President & CEO

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong communication skills (both verbally and in writing), public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Exemplary organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to different situations in order to meet the needs of the families.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office and other common applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds

Education/Experience/Licensure

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor degree in social work, counseling, or related field is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse populations and good communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 is preferred.
  • Be certified by taking and passing an examination administered by HUD’s Office of Housing
  • Counseling within 6 months of hire and continue to maintain active status.
  • Complete and pass Renter Housing Certification within 12 months of hire.
