Rep. Fritz Secures $400K for Timber Mill Commons

Safe, attainable housing remains a critical need across Pennsylvania. In response, the United Neighborhood Community Development Corporation (UNCDC) is advancing Timber Mill Commons, a 42-unit affordable housing development in Honesdale Borough, Wayne County.

The project is supported by a $400,000 investment secured by Representative Jonathan Fritz, who represents Pennsylvania’s 111th Legislative District, through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Community Economic Assistance Program (CEAP). This funding assisted with the acquisition of the property located within walking distance of downtown Honesdale.

Timber Mill Commons will transform a former sawmill into a revitalized residential community that reflects the character of the surrounding neighborhood. As part of the project, approximately 10,660 square feet of unusable structures will be demolished to prepare the site for new construction.

“Transforming properties like these into quality, affordable housing is central to our work. With Representative Fritz’s support, we look forward to bringing new housing opportunities to Honesdale,” said Lisa Durkin, President and CEO of United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania, who also oversees UNCDC.

Through projects like Timber Mill Commons, UNCDC continues to expand access to affordable housing across the region. The organization currently manages more than 400 housing units and developed 43 new units in 2025 alone, reflecting a sustained commitment to addressing housing needs in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
