Basic Needs/Crisis Intervention
UNC provides assistance to individuals and families who are facing food insecurities, utility crises, or who need help obtaining other basic needs. The agency operates a food and clothing pantry called Angel’s Attic, where those in need can select clothing, fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy products, and nonperishable foods to make up a healthy, balanced diet. UNC also provides utilities and housing-related services and various programs during the holidays. For more information, call our Community Services office at 570-343-8835.

Counseling, Education, and Long Term Support
Our agency firmly believes in the importance of continuing to work with clients past the fulfillment of basic needs, to provide the support necessary to empower them to achieve long-term stability.  To this end, the agency offers a variety of long-term support, education, and counseling services on topics such as budgeting, buying a home, and more.  We also offer an intervention program for male perpetrators involved in domestic violence, as well as several specialized permanent supportive housing programs for chronically homeless individuals and families. For information about our intervention program for male perpetrators or other questions, please call our Community Services office at 570-343-8835.

Onsite Supportive & Community Organizing Services
UNC is an onsite supportive service provider at several affordable housing developments throughout the region.  UNC staff members serve as an onsite resource for families in these developments who need social services assistance, as well as work to help build community in the buildings through group activities and educational opportunities. With transportation being an issue for many residents, convenient access to a coordinator that can connect the client to any of UNC’s services helps ensure that those who need it get the assistance necessary to stay independent. For more information, call our Community Services office at 570-343-8835.

Scranton/Lackawanna County Continuum of Care
UNC is the lead agency for the Scranton/Lackawanna County Continuum of Care (CoC), a coalition of social service organizations working together to improve services for the homeless in the region.  The CoC meets monthly to discuss the programs currently operated under each agency and to identify ways to expand services to better meet the needs of the community.  The goals of the CoC are to prevent and end homelessness, support the needs of the homeless population, and help individuals to achieve self-sufficiency.  LEARN MORE
