UNCDC Celebrates Ribbon-Cutting for Bucktown Center Senior Apartments

United Neighborhood Community Development Corporation (UNCDC), the nonprofit housing and economic development subsidiary of United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania (UNC), hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Bucktown Center senior apartment community on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 3:00 PM.

The newly constructed, four-story, 46,000-square-foot building at 222 East Drinker Street (corner of South Apple Street) in the heart of Dunmore features 40 affordable apartments for individuals aged 62 and older, along with brand-new commercial space. The project addresses a critical housing need in Northeastern Pennsylvania while contributing to the revitalization of the community.

Speakers at the ceremony included Senator Marty Flynn, 22nd District; Secretary Jason Kavulich, Pennsylvania Department of Aging; Representative Kyle J. Mullins, District 112; Jaime Ryan, CPA, Vice President and Relationship Manager, PNC; Jessica Perry, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA); Commissioner Bill Gaughan, Lackawanna County; Mayor Max Conway, Borough of Dunmore; James Caffrey, UNCDC Board Chair; and Lisa Durkin, UNC President & Chief Executive Officer, along with additional guests.

The development team for Bucktown Center included UNCDC; Karen Welsh, R.A., AIA, of UpStreet Architects (project architect); Jude Cooney of A+E Group (civil engineer); and Robert C. Grimm of Grimm Construction (general contractor).

The $19 million project was funded through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program managed by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), Federal HOME funds, The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Lackawanna County, and PNC Bank.

The event marked an important milestone in expanding access to affordable senior housing and was followed by tours of the new building.
