Staff Accountant

This position is located in Scranton, PA.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant will work with the Finance department team members at UNC NEPA headquarters in Scranton, PA to prepare and maintain financial records and other financial activities.

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including but not limited to verifying rent rolls, processing invoices, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports.

Nonprofit sector experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify Rent Rolls for Apartment Properties:
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness of rent roll data for all apartment properties.
  • Manage Rent Payments:
    • Verify all rent payments received from property managers and facilitate bank deposits as required.
  • Budget Information Entry:
    • Verify and input budget information for small companies.
  • Accounts Receivable Processing:
    • Prepare monthly accounts receivable invoices for local agencies.
  • Accounts Payable Processing:
    • Process invoices and payables for multiple companies including Amos, Webster, HBS Management, HB Stowe, Cabrini, and UNCDC.
  • Intercompany Billings and Payments:
    • Prepare monthly intercompany billings and payments to UNC.
  • Requisition Approval:
    • Verify and approve requisitions for processing through Accounts Payable.
  • Payment Processing:
    • Prepare checks for payment of accounts payable invoices on a weekly basis.
  • General Ledger Journal Entries:
    • Record all necessary general journal entries and allocations accurately.
  • Bank Reconciliations:
    • Complete monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records.
  • Aging Reports:
    • Prepare monthly aging reports for both accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliation:
    • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts for each assigned company.
  • Audit Assistance:
    • Assist with audit requests as needed, providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Financial Analysis:
    • Complete analysis of monthly financials for assigned departments to identify trends and variances.
  • Year-End Processing:
    • Run reports and complete year-end processing of 1099 forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Licensure

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting is required.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in accounting.
  • Candidates with nonprofit experience will be highly prioritized.
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger experience is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel is required.
  • Knowledge of AccuFund platform is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills is required.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team is required.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and completeness is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills is required.
