UNC services include child care centers with transportation, pre-school programs, youth programs, older adult programs, community health education, free screenings, community services, community education (free adult literacy, English as a Second Language, and citizenship classes), community revitalization, and community development (affordable housing).

Our UNC Locations: Scranton, Tunkhannock, Jessup, Carbondale, West Pittston.  This position is located in Scranton, PA with some travel to local colleges in the Scranton area and Luzerne county.

Hours: Full time position working 40 hours per week; two 12:00-8:00 pm day and three 9:00-5:00 pm days.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Education, the Case Manager/Instructor works with individuals interested in pursuing educational opportunities to obtain family-sustaining wages.

The responsibilities include providing comprehensive, individualized case management. Program participants are assisted with overcoming barriers to continued education and employment. The Case Manager/Instructor utilizes a person-centered, strengths-based approach by focusing on positive attributes of the participant and their situation and aims to empower clients to use their skills and goals to overcome challenges and achieve their desired outcomes.

The Case Manager/Instructor also facilitates classes and workshops related to career readiness for adult learners many of whom English is a second language.

Responsibilities:

  • Become trained in the agency’s coaching-oriented approach and the brain science of poverty, including skills for Executive Function and Self-Regulation.
  • Utilize a strengths-based approach to conduct thorough assessment of participant needs and creates an individualized action plan to remove barriers
  • Provide crisis prevention and intervention as needed
  • Collaborate with coaches and educational institution staff to address performance issues, barriers to success, and to celebrate achievements
  • Assist with the documentation and evaluation efforts of support methods for goal progression
  • Maintain relationships with community partners and participate in community and agency events for ongoing recruitment efforts

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong communication skills (both verbally and in writing), public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach English language learners.
  • Exemplary organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to different situations in order to meet the needs of the families.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office and other common applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Education/Experience/Licensure

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor degree in social work, counseling, or related field is preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
  • Experience working with English language learners is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 is preferred.
