Program Coordinator – Senior Programs

Our UNC Locations: Scranton, Tunkhannock, Jessup, Carbondale, West Pittston. This position is onsite at two locations: Mid Valley Senior Community Center in Jessup and Amos Towers in Scranton.

Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week Monday through Friday: 2 days at Mid Valley Senior Community Center in Jessup and 3 days at Amos Towers in Scranton.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Community Health and Aging, the role of this position is to develop creative programs and activities for seniors in the community, as well as to advocate for the holistic needs consumers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop an array of creative programs pertaining to health and wellness, socialization, entertainment, arts, fitness, and education to be offered at Senior Community Centers (SCC) and senior residential properties.
  • Oversee and ensure successful implementation of daily programming and special events by having a daily on-site presence at assigned SCC/properties.
  • Network with potential partners, vendors, volunteers and agencies to provide ongoing program offerings.
  • Engage and build rapport with senior participants by being a consistent presence on-site at the assigned SCC/properties.
  • Provide support and resource navigation to consumers, as needed. This may include referrals to the Community Health Navigator, other UNC departments, or other social service agencies.
  • Ensure seniors have access to the resources and services that they require to maintain independence and optimal health.
  • Keep seniors informed of services and programs available to them. This may include creation and distribution of calendars, newsletters, “welcome packets,” and promotional materials.
  • At residential properties, assist in orienting new tenants and help to facilitate their move into the building.
  • At residential properties, act as a liaison and advocate between residents and administration
  • Provide telephonic and in-person outreach for “wellness checks,” as needed.
  • Implement strategies and innovation that promote program growth and expansion and reach new, diverse populations.
  • Complete thorough and accurate documentation in compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security guidelines and in accordance with department/program specific procedures, as instructed by Department Assistant Director.
  • Assist in report writing, data collection, and preparation needed for grants, as requested by Department Assistant Director.
  • Participate in appropriate trainings to grow professional skillset and expertise as it relates to serving UNC consumers and seniors.
  • Represent UNC at community events and meetings as needed.
  • Perform all other duties deemed necessary by Department Director or President & CEO.

The Senior Community Center Program Coordinator must also:

  • Work on-site in an office environment with moderate noise (i.e. social programming in the SCC, phones, printers, light traffic).
  • Be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Be able to access and navigate the assigned SCC location’s facilities and help others do so when needed.
  • Be prepared to regularly stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard while performing the duties of this job.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements to complete computer work.

Education/Experience/Licensure

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 3 years working in human service field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 is preferred.
