Job Title: Physical Activity Education Specialist

Job Type: Seasonal (July 1-26), Paid Internship

Location: Camp Project Hope in Tunkhannock, PA (Onsite presence not required every day)

Since 1970, Project Hope Day Camp has provided Lackawanna County children from low-income families a safe and healthy place to learn and grow during the out-of-school months. Campers are transported to and from Camp Kelly in Tunkhannock for a traditional summer camp experience, which includes mindfulness practice, arts and crafts, environmental studies, sports, an Outdoor Adventure Learning Course, and other recreational activities. At Project Hope, children gain a better sense of self, develop their own talents, and learn new skills while developing positive relationships with peers and adults.


As a Physical Activity Education Specialist at Camp Project Hope, you will inspire children aged 5-14 to embrace heart-healthy behaviors through engaging lessons and activities. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Lesson Plan Development and Facilitation:
    • Develop and facilitate age-appropriate lesson plans on heart health for children.
    • Create and implement activities that encourage heart-healthy behaviors in an enjoyable and interactive manner.
  2. Assessment Administration:
    • Develop and administer pre- and post-assessments to evaluate student learning and the impact of physical activity programs.
    • Analyze assessment data to assess the effectiveness of lesson plans and activities.
  3. Report Generation:
    • Create a comprehensive report summarizing data found in pre- and post-assessments.
    • Provide insights and recommendations based on assessment outcomes to enhance future program effectiveness.
  4. Camp Schedule and Training:
    • Camp Dates: Monday-Friday, July 1-26 (with July 4th off)
    • Camp Hours: Approximately 9 am – 3 pm
    • Onsite Presence: Not required every day, depending on internship hour requirements.
    • Mandatory Staff Training: June 18, 10 am – 5 pm
    • Internship  would include prep-hours in June and one day of work after July 26 for final wrap-up.


  • Background in physical education or a related field.
  • Experience in developing and delivering physical activity programs for children.
  • Knowledge of heart health and physical fitness principles.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
